UPDATE (Jul. 30, 5.25 p.m.): Prepackaged salad mix may be the culprit behind the stomach bug outbreak that has left health officials scratching their heads.
According to NBC News, health officials in Iowa and Nebraska said Tuesday that bagged salad mix may be the source of the cyclospora outbreak. "The evidence points to a salad mix containing iceberg and romaine lettuce, as well as carrots and red cabbage as the source of the outbreak reported in Iowa and Nebraska," Steven Mandernach, chief of the Food and Consumer Safety Bureau of the Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals, told the news outlet. NBC notes that it's unclear at this point as to whether the salad mix is linked to other infections in other states. As of Monday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report that more than 370 cases of cyclospora infection have been reported in 16 states. * * * UPDATE (Jul. 25, 2.45 p.m.): The number of U.S. residents who have come down with a mysterious stomach bug continues to rise this week as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced Thursday that at least 285 people in 11 states have been diagnosed with a cyclospora infection. At least 18 people have reportedly been hospitalized. The CDC says that it still does not know what's causing this belly bug but some experts suspect that some cases of the illness may be related. "Because no food item has been implicated to date we're not yet sure the cases in the various states are related," said Dr. Barbara Herwaldt, a medical epidemiologist at the CDC, according to Reuters. "Though it's quite likely that the cases in the Midwest might be." An earlier report continues below: Nearly 300 people in several states were struck recently by a mysterious stomach bug, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In an update on its website Wednesday, the CDC wrote that at least 275 residents of multiple states, including Iowa, Nebraska, Texas, Wisconsin, Georgia, Connecticut and New Jersey, have been diagnosed with a cyclospora infection. The stomach bug, which causes diarrhea and other flu-like symptoms, could be linked to a foodborne illness, according to The Associated Press. From an earlier AP report: The Food and Drug Administration is investigating the cyclospora infections, which are most often found in tropical or subtropical countries and have been linked to imported fresh produce in the past. The illness is usually spread when people ingest food or water contaminated with feces. The agency says it isn't yet clear whether the cases from all the states are linked. - Huffington Post Agenda 21 is a protocol of the United Nations that is designed to greatly limit the lifestyle of populations, particularly in developed nations. It is being promoted to seem to address concerns about climate change, the economy, and social justice. Climate change was originally described as “global warming” until the evidence of that was exposed as uncertain. Falsely blaming carbon emissions from human activities as the cause of changes in climate and weather was a strategy developed by a group of elite planners called “The Club of Rome” in the 1970s to justify programs to reduce what they consider to be overpopulation and save resources for their future profit and control measures. Carbon is not a toxin and is actually needed by plants to grow. The planning by the elite powers resulted in the introduction of Agenda 21 through global environmental conferences in the 1990s, and its evolution to now reorganize how people live in the 21st Century.
Agenda 21 emphasizes the development of what are called “sustainable communities” of green living. The plan calls for people to be concentrated in cities, residing in modest equitable spaces, with minimal use of resources. Water volume and energy use for heating and power are becoming monitored and limited with smart meter technology. In the future, if you have a job it is expected that you will live in or near your work site. Your income will be about enough to meet your justifiable expenses, which will be audited through the cashless banking system. For that matter, your purchases, communications, activities and interests can be monitored through your digital payments, smart phone transmissions, and television-computer usage. Transportation is to be restricted to conserve fuels and reduce carbon emissions. You should be able to walk, bike or take a public conveyance to wherever you need to go. If you get permission to go out to the country, you and your party can rent a smart car for the day. Hopefully you will be pleased with your life. If you were found to be depressed, the prescribed medications, monitored by nanobots to ensure compliance, in conjunction with the routine public poisons, including those from compelled vaccinations, may further reduce your intelligence or impair your enjoyment of the mass hypnosis media. Even food consumption may be controlled in a future time of crisis. Codex Alimentarius is another associated international plan regarding food and nutrition that is considered part of the global scheme to restrain all citizens of the New World Order Empire. Who Is Behind Agenda 21? Institutions such as the United Nations, the Club of Rome and many others, are part of a world domination structure that can be described as the Transnational Interlocking Corporate Kingdom. The acronym of this title for the global control mechanism is the “TICK“. It is a giant parasite sucking the life blood of the planet. This massive top-down organization includes profit-making corporations, non-profit groups, non-governmental organizations (NGO’s), foundations, educational institutions, political committees, regulatory and other bureaucratic agencies and even governments. At the heart of it is the military-intelligence-financial-industrial-petroleum-chemical-pharmaceutical-technology-media complex. The TICK was gradually created over the course of more than a century by extremely wealthy elite powers groomed in a centuries-old tradition of controlling others. Their purpose and plan was to infiltrate, consolidate and operate global finance, governance, business and cultural institutions, with increasing knowledge and control of resources, technology, people and almost every activity. Agenda 21 has been set up as a means to ultimately control the population, the infrastructure, the land and natural resources. In essence, it is Soviet-style total government control. The strategy is to have the policies that foster implementation of the agenda appear to be generated by grassroots local community organizations. However, the “councils of government” or “policy coalitions” that have been established at various levels for “smart growth” planning usually consist of participants who are not directly elected to these bodies. Often certain compatible elected officials on local governing councils or boards are referred or requested to be part of a non-governmental organization that does this sustainability planning. There are often other members though who are not elected to a position in any jurisdiction. Sometimes people insert themselves in the process if the group is open. Members may be recruited or seek to participate on the policy-making council because of their interest in green communitarian ideas and/or social issues. Thus for the most part the policy planners are not accountable to the public for their plans. Such a group is not only attractive to collectivist oriented operatives, this type of council has been created for them to exert their influence. These policy coalitions commonly include or consult with TICK agents who are trained in group dynamics to evoke and repackage decisions to be in alignment with the preset protocols of Agenda 21, while making it seem like the policies came from the group‘s own ideas and work. There is a sequence of interrelated councils at local, state, regional and national levels that could become the governance structure of the United Nations. The Agenda 21 concepts have been crafted to seem very appealing to those who are concerned about issues such as the environment, poverty and social justice. They would like to reduce “carbon footprints”, to avoid “food deserts” and to “redistribute wealth” so everyone has their needs met without harming the planet. The TICK plans for the reduction and concentration of the population, the implementation of carbon taxes and the confiscation of private property, are being packaged as “progressive” United Nations programs to meet those motivating concerns. Anyone who opposes these policies may be subject to “reeducation“. Since most municipal, county and state governments were long ago reformatted into corporations, and since they are already acclimated to pursuing the policies handed down from the parent national corporation, they are ready by design for transition into the format called for by the United Nations’ Agenda 21, as formulated by the cabal that operates the Transnational Interlocking Corporate Kingdom. How Do We Stop Agenda 21? First we can educate friends who are willing to be activists enough to investigate and question what is happening locally in regard to Agenda 21. We can seek out and attend the planning meetings where sustainable community development is being discussed. If one is able to speak, they can contact local groups to make well-planned presentations about the situation. Writing clear letters to the editor of the local newspapers or calling local radio talk shows with sharp comments are other possibilities. Forming a group to plan actions for raising awareness and demanding appropriate accountability from those planning your future could also facilitate development of a self-sustaining support community of like-minded friends for whatever the future holds. In late 2010, after a long and unhappy antibiotic treatment for Lyme disease, my newest GP (who's still my doctor today), Chuck de Sieyes, MD, announced that he was referring me to Mansmann: "Because I have no idea what's going on with you, and he's one of the smartest guys around. And frankly, I've had it!" Mansmann had moved to Yarmouth with his wife and kids to be close to his parents, who'd retired in Maine. A third-generation allergist, he worked in his father's allergy clinic, at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, during high school. While in college at Saint Joseph's University, also in Philadelphia, he helped his dad develop two asthma drugs. Later, he headed an allergy and immunology clinic at a West Virginia hospital for 10 years.
Mansmann has a helmet of thick, graying hair and an intensely serious air. After escorting me into an exam room, he sat down across from me and promptly pushed aside my thick medical file. He'd read through it all, he said, but he wanted to hear the story from me. He listened patiently, asking questions every so often: When did my rashes flare? Was the pain an ache in my muscles, or did it feel deeper? Was I worse after I slept or at the end of the day? He seemed, as we spoke, to have all the time in the world. Then, with no pyrotechnics, he offered his theory: "I think it's possible you've developed a reaction to genetically modified corn." Genetically modified corn? Everyone's heard of GMO corn, but I realized I didn't know what it actually was. Mansmann explained that starting in the mid-1980s, the biotechnology giant Monsanto began to genetically alter corn to withstand its herbicide Roundup - the goal being to eradicate weeds but not crops - as well as to resist a pest called the corn borer. These small changes in the DNA of the corn are expressed by the plant as proteins. It's those proteins, Mansmann believes, that can act as allergens, provoking a multisystemic disorder marked by the overproduction of a type of white blood cell called an eosinophil. He swabbed inside my nose with a Q-tip, then placed the results under a microscope. "Take a look," Mansmann said. "See all those pink cells? Those are eosinophils." My nose, it seemed, was chock-full of them. When the immune system is working properly, eosinophils swarm certain invading substances, be they parasites or viruses, and work to eliminate them. Sometimes, however, an allergenic protein may prompt the immune system to release eosinophils. Then, it's as if a faucet gets turned on but can't be turned off - eosinophils just keep coming. Eventually they begin to leave the bloodstream and may infiltrate and damage the GI tract, esophagus, mucous membranes, lungs, the fascial system (the layer of connective tissue that surrounds the muscles, blood vessels, and nerves), and the skin - hence, the avalanche of symptoms. (Some allergists say that the best way to test for a true eosinophilic disorder is to look for the cells in the esophagus and GI tract with an endoscopy. But Mansmann thinks that once you have a preponderance of them in your nasal mucus, they're likely to be elsewhere.) Mansmann's advice was to strip all corn, even that marked organic, from my diet. "It's almost impossible to find a corn source in the United States that doesn't have the [protein] in it," he said. The U.S. government started approving GMO corn and soybeans for sale in the mid-1990s, and today, 88 percent of corn, and 93 percent of soybeans, are the transgenic varieties. Moreover, Mansmann and others contend that due to cross-pollination via winds, birds, and bees, there's no such thing anymore as a GMO-free corn crop. He estimated that it would take from two to four months of living without corn for the eosinophils to cycle out of my body, and almost a year before I'd feel entirely like myself. While I quickly discovered that blaming GMO foods for any kind of health problem is controversial in the medical and biotech worlds, what's beyond debate is the increase in the incidence of autoimmune disorders such as type 1 diabetes, lupus, and celiac disease, as well as of allergies. As for the latter, the National Health Interview Survey found, for instance, that since 1999, the number of children with foodallergies has jumped by 50 percent, and those with skin allergies by 69 percent (and the increase isn't merely a by-product of fuller reporting by parents, experts say). Allergenic eosinophilic disorders, however, aren't counted in that data. They were first identified about 20 years ago, according to a pioneer in the field, Marc Rothenberg, MD, PhD, a professor at University of Cincinnati medical school and director of an affiliated center for eosinophilic disorders. "We're in the midst of an allergy and autoimmune epidemic," Rothenberg told me on the phone, "and the environment is the black box." Mansmann's GMO theory was "interesting," he went on, before quickly adding that "no one in conventional medicine will have the data" to prove it. Back in 2011, though, I was desperate enough that I was willing to try the diet Mansmann recommended. After all, how hard could it be to give up corn? The answer was: way harder than I imagined. Corn was my Waldo, popping up everywhere: in tea bags, juice, and cheese culture; it lined my "to go" coffee cups and plastic bags of frozen vegetables; it coated my store-bought apples and was on the bottom of restaurant pizza - almost everything my family used, no matter how piously natural and organic, had corn in it. It came under the guise of dozens of names like "xanthan gum," "natural flavors," "free-flowing agents," "vitamin E," "ascorbic acid," "citric acid," and "cellulose," to name a few. Almost daily, I'd find a new culprit. "Damn, this toothpaste is full of corn!" Then: "Wait, our dish soap is made from corn!" Or: "Oh my God, iodized salt has dextrose in it!" Not to mention the corn that is fed to animals whose meat and eggs I ate, whose milk I drank. I had to restrict my diet, Mansmann said, to vegetables, grains other than corn, grass-fed beef and dairy, wild fish, and game (if I was game). My husband and I threw ourselves into the corn-free diet with gusto: We began baking all our bread, we learned how to make our own flour tortillas and sweet treats like muffins and cakes. By luck, we met an intrepid farmer raising corn-free chickens (harder than you might guess, because chickens have literally been bred to get fat fast on corn). We eschewed anything premade and began gathering foods from local sources we could trust. I stopped taking every medicine or supplement with corn in it (which was most of them). Wherever I went, I took my own stainless-steel coffee cup. The first thing I noticed was that my skin rashes began to dissipate. Then, slowly, my body stopped aching, and I could walk or even jog easily, for the first time in years. I started to have more energy, and I slept better at night. The head cold went away - poof - and I wasn't going through a box of tissues a day. My hands became less stiff. I realized, in retrospect, that my frozen hands had been the hardest symptom to tolerate: I could barely button my son's small shirts or apply a Band-Aid, which made me feel useless as a mother. Almost four months later, in late May, I felt pretty much like my old self. I was so startled by my physical well-being that I didn't know how to enjoy it. Each night I'd go to bed preparing myself for the possibility that I might wake up sick again the next morning. Could GMO corn really be my problem? Could this blessed state really last? I couldn't let go; I had to know more. I decided to visit Rothenberg and his team of researchers endeavoring to crack open the black box...
